Teaching phrasemes in the Czech language at the 2 nd grade of elementary school
PETERKOVÁ, Klára
This diploma thesis focuses on teaching phrasemes in Czech language lessons in elementary schools especially in 7th grade. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical one and research. The main goal of the theoretical part is to present the basic overview of phraseology as a linguistic discipline and didactic games as activating methods of education. The empirical part describes the creation and usage of didactical tools for teaching phrasemes and also summarizes the results of a survey.
Italian similes of the type "Adj-comme-N" compared to their Czech equivalents
SVOBODOVÁ, Renata
The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to compare Italian similes of the structure "ADJ-come-N" with the Czech language. Therefore it is necessary to describe the basics of phraseology and idiomatic meaning, before we continue with the translation. The main focus in the first part is the theoretical definition of comparisons in general. The second part, theoretically analyzes specifically defined structure of similes. For further practical analysis, an inquiry was created in the questionnaire form of the ItWaC corpus, on the basis of which examples were extracted and 266 comparisons were selected for further study. Consequently, their translations are the most extensively studied part in this work. The proposed translations are based on the Dictionary of Czech Phraseology and Idiom (Part Simale), on the parallel linguistic corpus InterCorp and on the specialized dictionary Dizionario dei modi di dire della lingua italiana. The main aim of the thesis is to outline the possibilities for translation into the Czech language and their evaluation in terms of equivalence and structure of the sentence (where eventually changes are compared to the given construction) and to find out their rate of frequency from the corpus SYN.
Spanish similes with adjective and it's equivalents in Czech
Šilhavá, Terezie ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Kratochvílová, Dana (referee)
This dissertation focuses on Spanish similes with adjective (like feliz como una perdiz) and its equivalents in Czech. First the theoretical frame is sketched: a summary of the evolution and of the actual situation of the investigation in the field of fraseology; a description of the corpora which were used as a source of the data; a characterization of the basic terms connected with the topic; a description of the function of phrasemes and simies in the process of communication; and a summary of some basic thoughts from cognitive linguistics. Then a semantic and contrastive analysis of the simies with selected adjectives (feliz, alegre, triste, tranquilo, furioso) comes. Finally we point out what each comparatum can tell about the meaning of the adjective, what we can tell about the comparata and its selection, and what can be said about the grade of stabilization of the examined simies. Then a tip follows: what more could be explored in this area and that there could be a possibility to use the results of such research for instance while creating a didactic material.
Comparison of Czech, Russian and English simile
Krauzová, Marcela ; Rozboudová, Lenka (advisor) ; Žofková, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis is dedicated to similes in Czech, Russian and English languages. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the influence of culture on language and summarizes the basic knowledge of the phraseology and terminology associated with it (phraseological unit, idiom and simile). The practical part of the thesis analyses the specific similes in Czech, Russian and English languages, dividing them into categories on the basis of their meaning and according to the degree of their mutual equivalence. It presents the meaning of Czech, Russian and English simile, including examples of the use of phraseological units in Russian literature, organised into several tables. The tables also include symbols, which stand for full or partial degree of equivalence as well as for unequal similes. The aim of this work is to confirm or disprove a hypothesis set in advance regarding the degree of influence of closely related languages on the equivalence of idioms.

Figures of speech in non-literary translations
Mazancová, Zuzana ; Králová, Jana (advisor) ; Eichl, Radek (referee)
The present thesis deals with figures of speech in non-literary texts and with the problems connected to their translation. The first part is dedicated to the theoretical description of figures of speech. First we deal with their definition according to the Czech and Spanish terminology and next we proceed to the figures that can be expected in popular science texts. We deal mainly with metaphors, their classification and opinions of translation scientists about the possibilities of their translation; but we mention also simile, metonymy and synecdoche. The second chapter is dedicated to popular science texts, to the problems connected to their translation, to the presence of metaphors in this type of texts and to their translation. In the second part we describe the analysed texts and the methods used in our work; the third part deals with the results of our analysis. During our analysis we found the same amount of figures of speech in both languages. Metaphors predominate in both languages, but while in Czech they represent the absolute majority of all figures, in Spanish they represent only a half of all the examples. Personification also appears many times in Spanish texts, but in Czech texts it doesn't appear in such a large measure. Metonymy, synecdoche and rhetorical question are represented...
French similes of the type "Adj-comme-N" compared to their Czech equivalents
PECHOLTOVÁ, Lucie
The objective of this work is to compare French similes of the type "Adj-comme-N" to their Czech equivalents. The work consists of two parts. The first part is focused on the theoretic definition of phraseology and idiomatics and its units, phrasemes and idioms. It is followed by the definition of a simile, as a specific part of phraseology and idiomatics, and the characteristic features of the assigned group of similes. The samples have been extracted from the corpus frWaC. They are analysed in the respects of form, semantics and translation in the second part of this work. Most of our attention is paid to the aspect of translation. The main aim of this work is to outline some of the possibilities of the translation into the Czech language and to evaluate the degree of equivalency preservation.
To the Phraseology of Elementary School Pupils
HAMPERGROVÁ, Zuzana
Topic of this diploma thesis is The Issue of Idioms at Upper Primary Schools. Phraseology is the integral part of daily communication that is why I decided to explore how pupils understand it. The theoretical part is based on publications of our leading linguists. The practical part studies not only the knowledge of idioms but also whether pupils understand it and if they are able to use them in sentences. The questionnaire consists of idioms, which have emerged as the examples in theoretical parts but also with the help of dictionaries of Czech phraseology and idioms.
Figurativeness means in the books by Petra Hůlová
HRONOVÁ, Eva
The theme of my thesis is to describe the different means of figurative expressions. The attention is particulary aimed to the simile but the other indirect figurative expressions are not be omitted. As a basics of this thesis two books by Petra Hůlová (Paměť mojí babičce and Přes matný sklo) and the selected columns from four contemporary journals (Právo, Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny) were used in the course of one month (March 2008). The chapters are constitued by the general stylistic theory which is substantiated with the examples of the said books and journals. The real analysis of the examples either corroborates or refutes these general theories. An author´s profile and a brief characterization of her both books are the elements of the thesis. The final part of this thesis comprises the summary of figurative expressions both in the artistic and in the journalistic style.
